Middle School is a unique and important stage in a student’s educational journey. It is a time when young adolescents begin to discover their strengths, develop greater independence, build meaningful relationships, and grow into confident learners and leaders. CDA Middle School follows the U.S. educational model and includes Grades 6, 7, and 8, corresponding to 5to., 6to., and 1ro. Básico in the Guatemalan educational system.

At Colegio Decroly Americano, we are committed to creating a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment where every student feels known, valued, and challenged. We believe that students learn best when they know they matter. Meaningful relationships are the foundation of student success. Middle school students are at a critical stage in their lives, and they need adults who know them, believe in them, and help them recognize their own potential. Our teachers serve not only as educators, but also as mentors who encourage students to grow academically, socially, and emotionally while helping them discover their unique talents and strengths.

We believe that academic success is important, but we also recognize the importance of character, responsibility, collaboration, creativity, and resilience. Our goal is to help students develop the skills and habits they need to succeed both inside and outside the classroom. When students feel valued and connected, they are more willing to take risks, engage in learning, and grow into confident young adults.

Our academic program challenges students to think critically, solve problems, communicate effectively, and apply their learning beyond the classroom. We believe education should prepare students not only for High School, but also for life. Through engaging learning experiences, leadership opportunities, athletics, fine arts, service, and extracurricular activities, students develop the skills, character, and confidence needed to become responsible and compassionate members of their communities. Students have opportunities to explore their interests and talents through clubs such as Leadership, Choir, Drama, Painting, and Dance, as well as athletics including basketball, soccer, volleyball, and track and field.

We recognize that each student learns differently and brings unique strengths, interests, and perspectives to the classroom. By partnering with students and families and fostering a culture of belonging, high expectations, and continuous growth, we strive to create an environment where all students are empowered to succeed, discover their potential, and reach their personal best.

At CDA Middle School, we believe that learning is about more than acquiring knowledge—it is about becoming thoughtful, compassionate, and responsible individuals who are prepared to make a positive impact in both the local and global community. Our goal is to ensure that every student leaves our program not only with strong academic foundations, but also with the confidence, character, and life skills needed to thrive in an ever-changing world.
